Game 1 Kent vs. Salmon Creek
The Kent Little League 10-11 Year Old All Star Team started off the State Tournament with a bang, beating Salmon Creek 9-1. Kent's bats were hot the first inning as they scored 4 runs right away with a lead off home run from Brakken Newcomb, and singles from Jordan Jones, Matthew Mollenberg, Daniel Tanaka, Shane McGuire and Garrett Stewart. The Kent bats went quiet the second inning with only one hit from Jordan Jones. In the third inning, Shane McGuire led off with a single and was driven in by Jacob Rohweder. Derek Welch also had a single in the third inning. In the fourth inning, Kent scored one run driven in by Matthew Mollenberg. The fifth inning was mixed with walks drawn by Isaac Hegamin and Jordan Jones, base hits from Brakken Newcomb, Matthew Mollenberg and a few errors made by Salmon Creek. Jacob Rohweder had a hard line drive double in the 6th but no runs scored. Kent's defense was led by pitcher, Jordan Jones. Jordan allowed only 2 hits from the 19 batters he faced and struck out 9. Matthew Mollenberg came in for 20 pitches to keep him eligible for the next day's game. He faced 5 batters, striking out 1 and not giving up a hit. Derek Welch came in to close the game for Kent. He faced 3 batters, striking out 2 for the final outs of the game. It was a great way to start the State Tournament. Kent plays again tomorrow (Sunday)
Game 2 Kent vs Richland
The Kent Little League 10-11 Year Old All Star Team had one of it's most exciting (and frustrating) games yet as they barely beat the All Star Team from Richland. In the first two innings, Kent's only hit came from Shane McGuire, but Richland got off to a quick start scoring 2 in the first inning and 1 in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. Kent worked hard to earn one run in the third inning with base hits from Brakken Newcomb, Cory Wabinga, Jordan Jones to load the bases and a walk from Matthew Mollenberg to bring in Kent's solitary run. In the fourth inning, the Kent bats came alive and scored 10 runs off base hits from Shane McGuire (also with a double that inning), Isaac Hegamin, Austin Taylor (2 that inning), Brakken Newcomb (also with a double that inning) and Cory Wabinga. Walks drawn by Jordan Jones, Isaac Hegamin and Garrett Stewart added into the added scoring that inning. Kent led at that point 11-3, but the Richland team didn't get down. They scored 3 runs in the bottom of that inning, making it an 11-6 ballgame. Kent added 4 more runs in the 5th inning off a base hit from Daniel Tanaka followed by walks drawn by Shane McGuire, Isaac Hegamin, Garrett Stewart and Austin Taylor and Richland errors. Kent led at that point 15-6, but again, Richland did not give up. They battled back in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring 8 runs, bringing the score to 15-14 Kent. It was a nail biter in the 6th inning. Kent's one run lead didn't feel like enough. Matthew Mollenberg had a double that inning, but didn't score. Kent's defense went into the bottom of the 6th knowing they had to hold Richland and they did just that winning the game 15-14. Kent's defense was led by Cory Wabinga on the mound until he reached his 85 pitch count limit. Matthew Mollenberg came in for 20 pitches and Daniel Tanaka came in for 15 pitches before Austin Talyor came in to close the game bringing Kent's defense the ground ball and two flyouts they needed in the bottom of the 6th to win the game. It was a battle to the end and fortunately Kent was on the winning side today. Their next game is on Wednesday at 6:00pm in Oak Harbor against Capitol. Go Kent!!!
Game 3.
The Kent Little League 11-12 Year Old All Star Team defeated Capital 18-0
in the quarterfinal game to advance to the semi-final game in Oak Harbor on
Saturday at 1:00pm. On the mound, Jordan Jones pitched a complete game
throwing only 59 pitches, striking out 5, walking 1 and allowing only 3
hits. Jordan also delivered 2 homeruns in the game to help add to the 18
runs Kent scored. Other homeruns this game came from Brakken Newcomb (a
grand slam), Austin Taylor (a solo) and Jacob Rohweder (solo). Overall, the
Kent offense delivered 21 hits to score their 18 runs (Brakken 5, Cory 3,
Jordan 2, Shane 1, Garrett 2, Daniel 3, Jacob 1, Austin 2, Isaac 2).
Defensively, Kent was solid, throwing out ground balls hit to the infield
and catching fly balls to the outfield.
Keep it up boys! GO KENT!!!
Game 4 Winners Bracket Final
The Kent Little League 10-11 Year Old All-Star Team won their 4th straight game in the State Tournament in Oak Harbor defeating Walla Walla 19-3 in 6 innings. On the mound, Derek Welch delivered a spectacular game allowing only 5 hits and striking out 11 batters of 27 faced. Jacob Rohweder came in for the final 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th inning once Derek reached his pitch count. Offensively, Kent continued to deliver hit after hit, including homeruns from Isaac Hegamin, Jordan Jones (2), and Garrett Stewart. Brakken Newcomb had 2 doubles and a single, Jordan Jones added a single to his home runs, Daniel Tanaka hit a double, Shane McGuire added a single, Garrett Stewart hit a single and a double to add to his home run, Austin Taylor had a single, Jacob Rohweder had a single and a double, Isaac added a triple to his homerun and Derek Welch belted out 3 singles. Way to go team. Keep the hits coming! Kent now moves to the Championship Game on Monday at 6:00pm in Oak Harbor. Come cheer them on to a State Championship! GO KENT!
Game 5 Championship Game against Greater Richland
Kent wins a thriller...Bottom of the 6th, bases loaded, 2 outs....every kids final scenario, full count (not quite) Austin Taylor at the plate..... and a long single to the left centre field fence for the game winning hit. Game 1. V's Steel Lake Game 1 photos here
The Kent Little League 10/11 year old All Star team won their first District 10 playoff game Saturday by defeating the always tough Steel Lake. Offensively, in the first inning, Brakken Newcomb and Cory Wabinga had back to back homeruns giving Kent the early lead. In the 4 th inning, Brakken again went yard with a homerun batting opposite handed. To end the game in the 4 th inning, Garrett Stewart had a walk off 3 run homerun scoring the last few runs Kent needed to beat Steel Lake 13-1 by the 10 run rule. Other notable hits in the game to help Kent add to the score were by Daniel Tanaka who had 3 singles, Shane McGuire who had a double, Jordan Jones, Matthew Mollenberg and Isaac Hegamin who had a singles. Derek Welch had a keen eye at the plate, walking twice. Kent's defense battled when Steel Lake put the ball in play and Jordan Jones worked hard on the mound as he struck out 6 of 16 batters faced and only walking one batter. It was a great start for the team. Come watch them play Monday at 6:00 pm.
Game 2 V's Bonney Lake / Sumner Game 2 Photos here
The Kent Little League 10/11 year old All Star team won their second District 10 playoff game by defeating a very tough Bonney Lake Sumner. From the start, the game was a battle, but Kent eventually got their bats going. Shane McGuire had two doubles, Matthew Mollenberg had a double, Garrett Stewart, Isaac Hegamin, Daniel Tanaka each added singles and again with the help of home runs from Cory Wabinga and Brakken Newcomb Kent defeated Boney Lake Sumner 9-4. On the mound, Cory Wabinga faced 19 batters, striking out 6 and giving up 3 runs off 2 hits and Matthew Mollenberg came in and faced 9 batters and giving up only 1 hit. Behind the plate, Shane McGuire worked hard keeping the ball in front of him and throwing a runner out stealing second base and also picking off a runner at 1 st base. It was a great win. Come watch them play again Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
Game 3 V's Auburn . Game 3 Photos here
No home runs today, but there were plenty of hits as the Kent Little League 10-11 Year Old All Star Team had a shut out against Auburn. The game got off to a slow start for both teams with effective pitching for both teams. Kent scored only one run in the first inning off a great base running ploy from Brakken Newcomb who got on with a lead off base hit up the middle and moved to second on an infield error off a hard hit ball from Jordan Jones. Brakken then proceeded to decoy the Auburn team into thinking he was walking back to second not paying attention and when they decided to throw, it went into the outfield, thus scoring Kent's only run in the first inning. After that, the Kent bats stayed cold on through the 2nd inning (only one single from Isaac Hegamin), but when the third inning came around, Kent went on a rampage, scoring 12 runs off singles from Brakken, Matthew Mollenberg, Daniel Tanaka, Shane McGuire, Austin Taylor, Jacob Rohweder and Jordan Jones as well as doubles by Cory Wabinga and Isaac Hegamin and a triple from Jordan Jones. Every player in the line up that inning hit and scored at least once. This sealed Kent's win over Auburn as Auburn could not get their bats going against the stellar pitching of Kent's Jordan Jones. It was one of his best performances on the mound yet. With a total of only 32 pitches thrown the entire game (4 innings), Jordan struck out 3 batters while the defense behind him was solid, making routine infield plays. Only one base hit was allowed. Catcher, Shane McGuire, worked hard behind the plate blocking balls and he picked off one runner at first base. Kent is now in the championship game on Saturday at 9:00 am. Come on out and root the All Star team on! We've had a great following so far and appreciate those who are supporting our league. GO KENT!
Game 4. Championship Game. Saturday June 27th 9am
Today was not Kent's day. The 10-11 Year Old All Star Team fell short of winning the District 10 Tournament going undefeated as they fell to the tough Steel Lake All Star Team who Kent knocked into the loser's bracket their first game. Steel Lake battled their way through the loser's bracket defeating their opponents one at a time. On a four game winning streak, they came into the game on a high note. Kent was not able to rally their bats and only delivered 3 runs in six innings. Hits from the Kent team were sparse, Jordan Jones, Matthew Mollenberg (2), Isaac Hegamin, Shane McGuire, Cory Wabinga (2), and Brakken Newcomb came up with hits in the game, but they were not enough to match the hard hitting Steel Lake team today. On the mound for Kent, Cory Wabinga started and pitched 3 innings and was relieved by both Matthew Mollenberg and Daniel Tanaka. Kent will play Steel Lake again tomorrow (Sunday) for the District 10 Championship and the chance to move on to the State Tournament in Oak Harbor. Come out and cheer them on!
Game 5. Winner to State Game, v's Steel Lake. Sunday June 28th 10.00am.
Well, it was a nail biter to the very end, but the Kent Little League 10-11 Year Old All Star Team pulled out a win in the "If" game Sunday to win the District 10 Championship after losing to Steel Lake 12-3 Saturday. Kent started the game scoring 3 runs in the first inning off base hits from Cory Wabinga, Jordan Jones, Daniel Tanaka and Shane McGuire, but then went scoreless the next three innings. Steel Lake came back in the 4th inning scoring 3 runs off a home run to tie the game 3-3. The Kent bats came alive in the bottom of the 5th inning when they batted through the line up and scored 7 runs with a double from Cory Wabinga, singles from Brakken Newcomb, Matthew Mollenberg, Daniel Tanaka, Shane McGuire, Isaac Hegamin and Austin Taylor and a walk drawn by Garrett Stewart. Kent led 10-3 going into the 6th inning, but the Steel Lake All Stars didn't go down without a fight. They rallied their bats and scored 6 runs coming up one run short of tying the game when Austin Taylor made a spectacular catch in left field to end the game and give Kent the win. It was a battle to the very end. On the mound, Jordan Jones started and pitched 4 2/3 innings and after reaching his pitch count was relieved by Daniel Tanaka and Isaac Hegamin. It was a great championship game for any spectator to watch. Kent will now advance to the State Tournament starting July 18th in Oak Harbor. Their first game will be on the 18th at 1:00pm. Thanks to all those who have already come out to support the team and we welcome any and all fans in Oak Harbor. Go Kent!
